For the sake of this guide, large birds comprise the smaller parrot species such as African greys, Amazons, smaller cockatoos like Goffin’s and umbrella, and smaller species of macaws, and any others that are roughly the same size. These birds need a stronger, larger cage than cockatiels or conures, but not quite the same size needs as the larger species like blue and gold macaws or Moluccan cockatoos.

The bar spacing (the size of the space between the cage bars) you should aim for on these cages will be roughly 3/4″ to 1″ and the bars themselves should be thicker than you’d find on a cage for small birds because of the larger, more powerful beaks these birds have.
